Poetry Sunday: We Are One

John 20:29 “Then Jesus told him, ‘Because you have seen me, you have believed; blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed.’”

We Are One

I am the branch and He the vine
or the other way around
so intertwined.

I am the shadow He is the Light
I fall to the ground without
                                         a sight.

I am the wick and He the spark
illuminating space there is
no dark

I am without as He is within
breathless purity leaves
                                       no sin.

I am the bride, He is the groom
loving relationship in
full bloom.

I am the vine, He the branch
integrated as One
mortal chance.

I am the branch and He the vine
communal spirits
natural design.

Poetry Sunday ~ The Voice of the People

Jer. 17:23 “But they obeyed not, neither inclined their ear, but made their neck stiff, that they might not hear, nor receive instruction.”

The Voice of a People (rewrite)

Divided nation defined by complexion
Giving people of color their own little section
We’ve taken blood and changed it to blue
To suit what’s befitting in all that we do.

Changing the prism that reflects amber light
Cannot be shaken amid darkened night
Believers are ones who bear heavy burden
To stand together as people are hurting

Sharing the Word through love rearrange
the hearts of men for hatred exchange
Caring for people too feeble to take action
The light we emit gives trails to our traction

As your somber soul grieves, God has a plan
For nations, the living, the slain and for man
Bring forth to the world, the difference, the spark
The part of Light that shadows the dark.

Poetry Sunday ~ In the Shadow...

A human being is only breath and shadow.
Sophocles

In the shadow...

(c) Joni Zipp

While I sit in the lonely shadow
the cloud hovers over me
I try to run away from it
its eye won’t set me free.

As I cling to the shadow
the darkness covers my being
I’m not allowed sunlight
only what I am seeing.

As I kiss the weary shadow
I lend blessing to the rain
it scurries off in fear
releasing all my pain.

As I walk out of the shadow
the Light beckons my soul
nurturing me 'til once again
my body can feel whole

Goodbye lonely shadow
leave me with my day
Let me drink the sunlight
that reigns this glorious day!

Poetry Sunday ~ Shadow of a Man

Job 3: [9] Let the stars of the twilight thereof be dark; let it look for light, but have none; neither let it see the dawning of the day:
***

Shadow of a Man
(c) Joni Zipp
***
He sits alone
shadows silhouette;
shattered sanity
his breath on loan.

He’s not there
glowing in gloom
an empty shell
is in the chair.

Darkness is stark
his self worth
leaves him cold
a soul in the dark.

Carries pain
through veiled sun
flickering light
falls like rain.

Rise up I say
you’re not unaided
walk with me
in this world today.

Speak to me
allow me in
walk this path
Light sets you free.
