The Fourth Week of Advent: The Star

When they saw the star, they were overjoyed.
Matthew 2:10

The Star

The star was present through the night
A shining ray of guiding light
They saw the shimmer in the sky
Knowing for a reason why.

A promise that so many knew
But countless thought that it not true
How can God come down as man
Live on earth and take a stand?

A booming blessed trumpet blared
For those who listened and prepared
It was no secret if truth be told
But man assigned a lie so bold,

Kill the firstborn, that will save
A world of people from all He gave
Have them look not at the sky
But in the hearts of those who cry.

Dim the star, the breathtaking Light
That guided man this wondrous night.
Every mother, father, daughter, son
Will behold this Glorious One.

As we grieve the world that shatters
For man consumed with earthly matters.
Remember the Gift, the glorious start
Of Christmas day found in your heart!

Luke 2:11-14 (KJV)
For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord. And this shall be a sign unto you; Ye shall find the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger. And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God, and saying, Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men.

A True Christmas Tale - poem by Joni!

Job 10:12 “Thou hast granted me life and favour, and thy visitation hate preserved my spirit.”

A True Christmas Tale

A tale was told one Christmas eve,
Tis' better to give than to receive.
But I have no gift, my pockets bare,
I am but a poet, my poem I'll share.
I rose from my bed on Christmas day,
The sun was peeking down where I lay.
I crept down the stairs so I could see,
Had Santa left gifts under my tree?
I wasn't surprised, left unamazed,
I stood at my empty tree and gazed.
No gifts to give, my heart did ache,
But I would go on for Christmas' sake.
I threw on my clothes, rushed out the door,
Just what is all this excitement for?
I have no gifts to give to thee,
No presents were left beneath my tree.
So how can Christmas be happy and gay?
What is the secret that makes this day?
I swung open the door, to my surprise,
My family was sitting before my eyes.
Greetings exchanged, hugs of embrace,
Smiles that lit the entire place.
"We're glad you're here, accept this gift.
Maybe then your spirits will lift."
I saw in their eyes a special glow,
That sunk my heart, and let me know,
That they were giving with deepest love,
For God had signaled from above.
The spirit of Christmas is a radiant gleam,
That shines through the soul, in a warming beam.
I have felt that warmth throughout the year,
By spreading laughter, joy, and cheer.
But a chosen day was set aside,
For all of our arms to open wide.
So the gift I give has no ribbons or bows,
I'll give you peace that warms and glows.
I'll tell you I love you, I'll make you smile,
I'll see that your visit was worth the while.
I returned to my house, I plugged in my tree,
There sat a star gazing down at me.
I looked at the star with wondrous sight,
For God had appeared that Christmas night.
I was given the secret of Christmas eve,
Tis' better to give, than to receive.

Author’s note: I wrote this when I was 18
But it is still one of my most favorite Christmas
Poems that I wrote! May it go down in His-tor-y!

Merry Christmas to all

And to all a good night!

The Nativity

image from google
poem by Joni

Isa. 9:6  For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.

The Nativity

They walked… in the still of the night.
On an ass… as the two took to flight
They fled… to save their unborn child
They paused… for grace was mercy mild.

The inn… no room for them to stay
A manger… is where the babe would lay.
The Light… would guide this virgin birth
He came… to save this fallen earth.

The lamb… would watch and bow his head
The beasts… huddled ‘round the hay-filled bed.
He lay… against His mother’s breast.
She wept… for now the earth was blessed

They came… to see the Newborn King
The star… led the wise men to sing.
He’s here… wrapped in swaddling clothes
Come now… His living water flows.

Rejoice, Rejoice, Oh Israel
To you has come Emmanuel.

Luke 2: 11-12  For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord. And this shall be a sign unto you; Ye shall find the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger.

Poetry Sunday ~ Twinkle Twinkle

Pss.12: 1 Help, LORD; for the godly man ceaseth; for the faithful fail from among the children of men

A Tragedy

Crimson has stained the world
As we mourn the life of youth.
No joyous sounds, no jingle bells
Stolen was the age of truth.

Blood has washed over our hearts
stained is our Christmas glory.
We sit in wonder of it all
as some are raging in fury.

Oceans of pain has erupted
on this luscious land we adore
Corruption has slithered along to find
we’ve welcomed all we abhor.

Tragedy unleashed its sorrow
in brutal ungodly fashion.
Wiping out the hearts of men
who are strong with Godly passion.

What better way to slash at God
then to slaughter His purest on earth;
to take away the moment in  time
that we celebrate Jesus’ birth.

How can man even fathom
as we grapple in the dark.
For one shining ray of hope
to the everlasting spark?

Often times as the path grows dim,
And we search for a ray of light.
High above there’s a shining star
Guiding us through the night.

Twinkle, Twinkle
***

Twinkle, twinkle
My little star
How I wonder
Why you’re off so far
Way up high out of my reach
So many things I’ve yet to teach.

Twinkle, Twinkle
My little star
In God’s hands
You’re not so far
Up above the moonbeams sigh
Can you see me as I cry?

Twinkle, Twinkle
My little star.
How I wonder
about this scar;
Left upon my soul so clear.
By my child, once so near.

Twinkle, Twinkle
My little star
Hold my place
Right where you are
Remember we’re not far apart
A place for you is in my heart.

Twinkle, Twinkle
My little star.
All the world
Knows who you are.

In remembrance of the children of the Dec. 14th  Sandy Hook Elementary School massacre

Pss. 14: 2 The LORD looked down from heaven upon the children of men, to see if there were any that did understand, and seek God

Heaven shines a little brighter, as a spiritual renewal washes over.
