The Sin of Lying

Prov. 12:17 “He that speaketh truth sheweth forth righteousness: but a false witness deceit.”

“A minister told his congregation, “Next week I plan to preach about the sin of lying. To help you understand my sermon I’d like you all to read Mark 17.”
The following Sunday the minister asked to see a show of hands. “How many of you read Mark 17?” Every hand went up. The minister smiled and said “Mark only has sixteen chapters. I will now proceed with my sermon, the Sin of Lying.”

This was a meme on my facebook wall. Yeah, my facebook wall is now filled with many prayer requests, scripture memes, flowers and little tidbits like this. I rarely post on facebook these days and only two people visit my wall so I really see no purpose in facebook anymore except for praying for people in need. That’s a great purpose in my eyes.

The above meme caught my eye and gave me a little chuckle and reading the comments was interesting too. One woman said, “Everyone tells a little white lie at some point in time.” And another one said, “Now that says a lot.” One woman said, “Wow, they so want to lie.” I’m assuming she meant Christians when she said ‘they’? This is the image people have of Christians.

I remember Pastor Mike pulling something like this on us when he asked (a trick question) “How many here sin?” My hand went up (too eagerly I might add) while only a couple more hands were raised out of two hundred people. I remembered the scripture all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God. (Rom. 3:23) That is the only reason my hand went up so quickly, I know firsthand I’m a sinner. But others were not too quick to admit that because what, they are perfect and never sin? I don’t know.

Lev. 6:3 “Or have found that which was lost, and lieth concerning it, and sweareth falsely; in any of all these that a man doeth, sinning therein:”

To me, the question isn’t about the sin per se, it’s more about the reason why people lie about the sin in their lives. Shame, ego, pride? I don’t know that one either, I’m not the one judging you.

While the term lie is found often in the KJV bible, it is usually meant as ‘to lie down’, bearing false witness is used as ‘to not tell the truth’. I believe one of my biggest faults is that I’m too honest. Many hear my words and think, she has to be lying but let me tell you, I would rather give you the blunt, honest truth than to lie.

Prov. 14:5 “A faithful witness will not lie: but a false witness will utter lies.”

The Christian life is not about happy joyful stories where everything goes right in our lives, sometimes our lives mimic the stories in the bible which can be pretty ugly at times. We as humans are no different than the biblical men and women. We color our world to look happy go lucky when deep down inside we suffer daily in pain and we strive on a daily basis to be a better person who doesn’t lie and hate, for what? For me, it is heaven. I long to see heaven and meet Jesus face to face.

Now I know quite a few people who don’t believe that heaven exists and I’m okay with that. I’m not okay with it, for ME but we’re all here to find something to believe in, strive to become something we see in others that we too can mirror. I think of all the people who boldly tell lies in a church to their minister what struggles they must be going through that no one will ever know because they hid so well amongst the righteous of the world.

“All our righteous acts are like filthy rags.” That statement was in a bible study email that we were reading. I don’t know who to attribute it to or I surely would but it really hit me upside the head. We can do good until we’re blue in the face, it doesn’t pave the road into heaven. We can appear to everyone to be the do-gooders of society but that doesn’t mean we’ll make it to heaven.

We can continue to sin up until the day we die and beg God for forgiveness five seconds before we die. We know he’ll forgive us but does THAT ensure us an entry into heaven? I don’t know, I haven’t died yet; I’ll let you know when I get there.

THAT my friends is NOT what He wants from us. He wants us now in our day-to-day living to be better people than all that have gone before us. He wants us to know that there is a penalty for sin when we do it knowingly. He wants us to be like His son and work toward being with Him. Yes, we all sin. Yes, we will all fall short. No, we will not all make it to heaven. That’s a scary thought to me.

Gay Bashing

Matt. 7:3 And why beholdest thou the mote that is in thy brother's eye, but considerest not the beam that is in thine own eye?

Gay Bashing?

Yes I said the word that can be heard around the country, gay. I didn’t use the politically correct term, homosexual, because when I was growing up men who liked men were called gay and no matter how wrong the term is, I can’t stop using it. I don’t use the term to degrade, it is just the word I know.  So with all due respect, please read on.

I have a friend who is struggling with accepting homosexuality, whether in her church or in politics, she is struggling BUT she isn’t doing it in a hateful manner, she is trying to understand and I respect that in her.

I have other friends who are downright gay bashers calling themselves Christians no less! I bet they’re all Conservitards, yup, I said that too, you know why? I’m tired of being called a Libtard because I don’t conform to their malicious form of hate spewing. But I just did and I have them to thank. FYI: I am affiliated with NO party!

I read a blog post by J.S. Park recently and it presented some pretty strong facts that made sense and I’d like you to read it so maybe you too can understand. If you are part of the hate-filled, gay bashing, racist, prejudiced community, I’d advise you not to read it because you might not like hearing the truth. You claim to know the truth; you swing those Bible verses around touting THIS is the truth, but seriously, do you even know what truth is?

People are fleeing churches in numbers because they allow gay people in their midst. But do they flee because people who have been divorced are there too? Why not? Are YOU deciding what sin or wrongdoing is right in the church? It is no different than picking and choosing which scripture you deem to be truth.

Since God CREATED the human being, by hating and bashing, you are essentially hating what God created! I have been living in sin for thirteen years now but the way I see it may not be the way you see it. I am divorced living with a man. Oh no, get out the stakes now! God had a hand in every single year, just so you know. Did he abandon me because I am living in sin? No. Did He judge me? Not yet. Am I going to hell? Who knows? Surely not me.

The way I see it is it happened this way so I could be persecuted. As we came closer to God it was God’s very own people who persecuted us.

“Then the chief priests and the elders of the people assembled in the palace of the high priest, whose name was Caiaphas, and they plotted to arrest Jesus in some sly way and kill him.” Matthew 26:3-4

“It is surprising to some that the rulers are not the biggest persecutors of Christians in the New Testament. That dubious honor falls to the Jewish priestly caste. But there is no doubt that strong opposition came from the rulers. Pontius Pilate was complicit in the death of Jesus; Herod Agrippa killed the apostle James in Jerusalem (Acts 12:2); and of course Nero initiated a terrible persecution against the Christians of Rome in AD 64—the community most think Mark’s gospel was written to encourage.” ~ Bible Gateway, SSttS

It is not surprising to me that we as a sinning couple were persecuted by our church family; gays are persecuted daily as well as Christians, Muslims, Jews and whatever doesn’t fit the accusers conformed (or deformed) state of mind.

Maybe satan has done his job, he is turning people against people in record numbers. He is turning people against the church, against everything God and it is working as the Bible prophesied.

So let me tell you, my fellow man, as you hate, spew hate, persecute and condemn, you are doing satan’s bidding not the Lord’s. As you pick and choose what scripture is your truth, learn to read it in its entirety to gain the understanding.

Matthew 22:37
Jesus said to him, "You shall love the Lord your God with all heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind."

If you believe that Jesus died for everyone’s sin, then you cannot pick and choose which sin is to be more condemned. If you feel gay men are living in sin and choose to condemn them, then choose to condemn me also as I am living in sin. The divorced woman, the widow, the thief, the murder are all sinners, condemn them also. Do you see now? You are condemning the very truth you say you uphold. Jesus didn’t condone sin any more than I do, but He died for sin. He forgave sin. He asked us to LOVE our brother, not condemn them for the sin you choose to condemn.

When Jesus Himself was hanging on the cross He said, “Father, forgive THEM, for THEY know not what THEY do.”

Luke 23:34 “Then said Jesus, Father, forgive them; for they know not what they do. And they parted his raiment, and cast lots.”

I am THEM, we are THEY, remember THAT truth.

Your Sin is Not My Sin

Job 2: 10 But he said unto her, Thou speakest as one of the foolish women speaketh. What? shall we receive good at the hand of God, and shall we not receive evil? In all this did not Job sin with his lips.

Your Sin is Not My Sin

Your sin is not my sin
I cannot weather the load.
If I pry my way into heaven
My sins are the one that’s showed.

The vice is worn around your neck
Do you think each one’s forgiven?
While you go through life committing
And try to keep sins hidden?

God sees a lingering crutch in man
Those things you think not bad
He sees the things you seek forgiveness
And the ones that scorched skin had.

We often try to be our own god,
Thinking we have some power
To carry the load of iniquity within
Never giving the bundle a scour.

Your sin is not my sin
I have my own to bear.
I’ll strive to carry Light
When sin is what you wear.

Job 20:11 His bones are full of the sin of his youth, which shall lie down with him in the dust.

FORGIVE, LORD? HOW MANY TIMES?

I am talking. You interrupt mid-sentence as though I weren’t even there.
Forgive, Lord?
How many times?
How many???
I deliver a handmade gift I know you’ll like.  You look up with disgust when you see me at your door.  I won’t keep you long, but I determine to not bother you again.
Forgive, Lord?
How many times?
How many???
You say you “hope those old folks with their walkers stay out of the way” of your shopping cart.
Forgive, Lord?
How many times?
How many???
You lied about me, something that can never be proved otherwise.
Forgive, Lord?
How many times?
How many???
An ex-employee, you effusively greet my husband with a hug and cheerfully introduce him to your intended while I, whom you know well, am ignored.  If I introduce myself, I risk embarrassing all present, including my husband.
Forgive, Lord?
How many times?
How many???
You sign the check, but never pen a word of thanks.  Was the amount not enough?
Forgive, Lord?
How many times?
How many???
I call. You’re busy.  You say you’ll call back.  You don’t.
Forgive, Lord?
How many times?
How many???
I am talking.  You totally tune me out, later asking for the information I have already spoken.
Forgive, Lord?
How many times?
How many???
You say you “don’t want those old people touching” your baby.
Forgive, Lord?
How many times?
How many???
What is that You are saying, Lord?
You’ve forgiven me how many times?
How many???
But it hurts, Lord.
“Forgive them. they know not what they do.”
“Forgive as you want to be forgiven.”
“Do unto others as you want them do unto you.”
“Inasmuch as you have done it to the least of these my brethren,
you have also done it unto me.”
I will forgive, Lord.
many times.
many.
I beg Your forgiveness, Lord.
many times!
many!!!
Thank You, Lord, for loving me
Please help me to learn to love more like You do.
