Poetry Sunday ~ Destiny

Job 30:18 “By the great force of my disease is my garment changed: it bindeth me about as the collar of my coat.”

Destiny

I had a taste
Of a blissful life
Upon my face in
This wondrous place

I had a chance
For the ultimate
Stance with a
Whimsical romance

I had a choice
The silent whisper
Of a voice, too soft
To hear through noise

I had a dream
So it would seem
Took to the sky
On a radiant moonbeam

Where are the years
I can never get back
I’m losing track
fell through a crack

Tomorrow climbs
The ladder it finds
Shards of glass
Through changing times

It was meant to be
My destiny
A part of me all I see
Fly away on wings so free

Poetry Sunday ~ Destiny...no more

May 2003

 Destiny…no more

She rode into my life like the stallion of my dreams
To carry me off to sanctity it seems.
It was her stoic behavior that bustled me through
To a world of fresh life, to all things new.

It was with Destiny that my license was gotten
She carried me through tough times that were rotten.
Whisking us to Nebraska up north
And south to NASA and everywhere henceforth.

Great stamina for a fourteen-year-old truck
To ferry us through until one day she was struck.
The memories I had all flooded my mind
Like getting us through travels with him being blind.

Texas, Nebraska, and Omaha trips
Light shows, balloon fests, our loving quick quips.
Destiny was alive, it seemed to me
She knew she had a hand in setting me free.

The first time I hurt her, her airbags all blown
But out of the ditch, her true colors shown.
She started right up the very next day
And for four more years she never did sway.

Is it possible to say we lost a true friend
Who stood beside us to the very end?
An inanimate object to which we adore
Til Carma showed up, now Destiny’s no more.

Luke 2: 29 Lord, now lettest thou thy servant depart in peace, according to thy word:

Author’s note: Destiny is the name of our truck that was recently totaled in a collision.
While we understand it was ‘just a truck’, she meant so much more to us both.
Praise God, no one was hurt!
 She served us well!
RIP Destiny

Poem ~ I AM THE ONE!

“I knew you were waiting, I knew you were waiting for me…”

I Am The One

I am the one

or so he does say

I am the one

that takes his breath away.

They were mere pebbles

he tossed in the ocean.

I am the one

that gave his love motion.

Mistakes happened

along the road.

I am the one

to which love flowed.

Love didn’t happen

along the old path

Left behind

is bitter wrath.

I am the one

he found to be true

The love of his life

the only he knew.

The others he left

adrift out at sea.

I am the one

he chose only me!

Quotation Saturday ~ Blessings, Karma, Destiny

Prov. 28: 20 A faithful man shall abound with blessings: but he that maketh haste to be rich shall not be innocent.

*** ~~~ ***

BLESSINGS ~ a favor or gift bestowed by God, thereby bringing happiness.

“When we lose one blessing, another is often most unexpectedly given in its place.”
~ C.S. Lewis

“You have to participate relentlessly in the manifestation of your own blessings.”
~ Elizabeth Gilbert

“Live your truth. Express your love. Share your enthusiasm. Take action towards your dreams. Walk your talk. Dance and sing to your music. Embrace your blessings. Make today worth remembering.”
~ Steve Maraboli

“For Equilibrium, a Blessing:
Like the joy of the sea coming home to shore,
May the relief of laughter rinse through your soul.

As the wind loves to call things to dance,
May your gravity by lightened by grace.

Like the dignity of moonlight restoring the earth,
May your thoughts incline with reverence and respect.

As water takes whatever shape it is in,
So free may you be about who you become.

As silence smiles on the other side of what's said,
May your sense of irony bring perspective.

As time remains free of all that it frames,
May your mind stay clear of all it names.

May your prayer of listening deepen enough
to hear in the depths the laughter of God.”
~ John O'Donohue, To Bless the Space Between Us: A Book of Blessings

DESTINY ~  the predetermined, usually inevitable or irresistible, course of events.

“I told you. You don't love someone because of their looks or their clothes or their car. You love them because they sing a song only your heart can understand.”
~ L.J. Smith

“There's nowhere you can be that isn't where you're meant to be...”
~ John Lennon

“There are winds of destiny that blow when we least expect them. Sometimes they gust with the fury of a hurricane, sometimes they barely fan one’s cheek. But the winds cannot be denied, bringing as they often do a future that is impossible to ignore.”
~ Nicholas Sparks, Message in a Bottle

“I knew I loved you before I met you
I think I dreamed you into life
I knew I loved you before I met you
I have been waiting all my life”
~ Savage Garden

“Your soul knows the geography of your destiny. Your soul alone has the map of your future, therefore you can trust this indirect, oblique side of yourself. If you do, it will take you where you need to go, but more important it will teach you a kindness of rhythm in your journey.”
~ John O'Donohue

KARMA ~ the good or bad emanations felt to be generated by someone or something:

“Life will give you whatever experience is most helpful for the evolution of your consciousness. How do you know this is the experience you need? Because this is the experience you are having at the moment.”
~ Eckhart Tolle

“When you see a good person, think of becoming like her/him. When you see someone not so good, reflect on your own weak points.”
~ Confucius

“If you send out goodness from yourself, or if you share that which is happy or good within you, it will all come back to you multiplied ten thousand times. In the kingdom of love there is no competition; there is no possessiveness or control. The more love you give away, the more love you will have.”
~ John O'Donohue

“Even chance meetings are the result of karma… Things in life are fated by our previous lives. That even in the smallest events there’s no such thing as coincidence.”
~ Haruki Murakami

Pss. 24: 5 He shall receive the blessing from the LORD, and righteousness from the God of his salvation.

Carma and Destiny

Carma and Destiny…

Ezek. 34: [26] And I will make them and the places round about my hill a blessing; and I will cause the shower to come down in his season; there shall be showers of blessing.

Well since Steven pretty much told of the exciting day we had on Thursday the 8th here, I thought I would add to the specialness of the day.

First allow me to tell you of Destiny. That is what we deemed his ’99 Explorer after his purchase of his truck back in 2003. It was destiny that rode into my life, in the fashion of a galloping blue steed, with Steven behind the wheel.

I saw that day back in May of 2003 as the day my life would be changed, altered, and would never be the same again. It was a year I would never forget and destiny was all a part of the swiftly changing scene; it only seemed fair that we gave her that name.

I know you think only guys name their cars, but this truck swept me off my feet into another state; another world than what I was accustomed to living. I had been living a sheltered life with a man who was ripping at the seams and for the protection of my son, I basically fled, with his blessing mind you, because he knew he was becoming volatile.

Destiny waved her colorful ribbons all caught in the moment of windswept storms. We dwelled in Texas for six years, and it is where I home schooled my son, got my license (at age 37) and watched as my son grew into a respectable human being. After six years in Texas, we were destined to be in Nebraska, where I sent my son to school for the first time. Now a senior, embarking on his last year of high school, he turned out to be a fine young, albeit tall, young man. Destiny was good to him too.

Now Destiny, the truck, had her inhibitions. She liked to stall on occasion, but nothing we couldn’t talk her back into a good rev. When I lost control a few years back, I planted Destiny in a ditch, and with airbags exploded, the tow- truck driver said, “You might as well junk it.” The undercarriage had been immersed in water and he felt she would never ride again.

Would you believe, the next day she started right up, we rode to his brother’s house, (he’s a mechanic) and he said she’d make it! Well, we KNEW she would, it was our Destiny! And ride she has for the past four years, never letting us down.

Now let me tell you. Here in Kearney, they have a car dealership named Crossroads. Wouldn’t ya know it that was the title for the novel I’m writing? That was its decided name BEFORE I moved to Nebraska and saw this car dealership. I had said from day one, “If I ever buy a car, it’s going to be from Crossroads, because that is like an advertisement for my novel.” I had even mentioned it again a few weeks ago, maybe even every time we ride past the dealership.

Now go back and read what a wonderful day we had yesterday. Everything went perfect, the car we wanted to buy seems perfect and too many things fell into place to not think something greater was at work. We road past Crossroads and again I said.. “I always wanted my first car to be from there.” You know what Steven said?

“I forgot to tell you, the back of the car? It has a Crossroads emblem on it.” Chills ran up my arms, tears built up without overflowing my eyes.

“This is our car! This is OUR CAR!!” My excitement as we were driving to the man’s house was building up, until we finally pulled up to the car. That is when the tears overflowed my eyes. Breathless I whisperd, “That’s my car! THAT is MY car!”

Adam in the back seat kept telling me to NOT cry, and as I dried my eyes, I got out and approached the car. We took it for a ride, and I knew, it was Karma! Adam kept saying Karma with a C and it stuck. Carma and Destiny met!

Yes, our two vehicles will outlive what the record books say because they were destined to be together. This is where you say, “Awwwwwwwww.”

Ecc.3: 1 To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven:

Karma, to me, is God working in every way!

Praise God!

Poetry Sunday ~ Destiny

Pss. 17: 5 Hold up my goings in thy paths, that my footsteps slip not.
***
Destiny
***
The stars they tiptoe across the sky
emitting light for you and I
A twinkle here, a shimmer there
a pirouette without a care.

A bold ballet in the expanse
friction of light; nothing to chance.
How we met and came to be
was nothing short of destiny.

Our souls collided with light fair ease
a wayward laugh lost in the breeze.
Never knowing where we’d be led,
with years behind and many ahead.

Our love will dance just like the stars
within the cosmos across to Mars.
On the horizon and into the plains
springtime showers, the summers rains.

From here on out our love will grow
display a gorgeous wondrous show.
No need for eyes to dearly impart
all the warmth lain in my heart.

All the years we’ve shared together
through the wind and stormy weather.
For years to come our love will soar
Eternity lasts forever more.

On this day I duly declare
all my love beyond compare.
As rays of light have no end,
My Valentine, to you I send!

Change...again???

Rom. 12: 1- Therefore I urge you, brethren, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies a living and holy sacrifice, acceptable to God, which is your spiritual service of worship. And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may prove what the will of God is, that which is good and acceptable and perfect.

Change again????

I know, right? Day three and I’m still talking about change? Change already and move on! Sorry if these topics have you wanting to run for the hills, but really, writing is all about change. I have journals dating back to the early eighties, and in them there is nothing BUT change. It wasn’t as if I was writing about all the good things in life, no, when I journal I write about my life, in a metamorphosis, and as I sit here now, my wings have taken shape.

Change is a part of human evolution. Y’see, Darwin had it all wrong, we didn’t evolve from monkey’s into humans, we evolved from something sinful, hurtful, spiteful (think Cain and Abel) into something consciously aware of our sinful natures and only through change can we recognize the nature and change what needs to be changed.

We can stay the same, as I’ve seen many do, never growing and changing. Always staying the same but using a mask as a front so people see you as changing but deep down within, you are still the same. To change within, enormous leaps and bounds have to be taken, we can’t just baby step through things, like we’re walking on egg shells, or broken porcelain. We have to tread on the glass, we have to hurt and feel the pain. We need to embrace the inevitable change and not dress it up in some bible words. Give Him a little more credit than that!

When you look at pictures of people from say, the 1800’s, while although women still had make-up, their faces had different shapes, men had different looks too. As technology evolved, men and women did too. Today’s woman can be airbrushed, men can pop rogaine pills, we can hold the destiny key, and shape ourselves into who we want to become, without ever looking to reconstruct our inner selves.!

We can have boob jobs, nose, and butt jobs; liposuction, tummy tucks, manicures, pedicures, weaves, shapes, and anything we want to ‘change’ we basically CAN! But is all this part of our natural evolution? I think it is evolution on steroids! It has evolved into something grotesque and inhuman. I think Darwin would wake today and say, “See we DID evolve from animals, but I was wrong, monkey’s are the better looking species!”

Women have sold their souls to the devil, men have danced in the dark with them, all thinking that this is the way that we’re supposed to live; just a natural evolution. Has no one retained a moral to carry through life? Has everyone landed in a pile of marshmallow and allowed their brains to become pillows of disgust, justifying their actions by saying, "this is what we’ve evolved to become. Live with it.’"

I personally thought that we were supposed to be aware of something higher and bigger than us. I consciously am aware of God holding the key to my destiny. Change does not come from anything outward that technology has cloned. Humans have become living products of  ‘Technology Gone Wild’.

Change comes from within. Holding the destiny key of change, does not give you the right to cosmetically enhance who you are because, lets face it, you can have Parton’s breast (and hair for that matter, it’s a fake too), Matt Damon’s smile, but when you turn in at night, you will always be the you that God created.

Poetry Sunday ~ Destiny's Call

Ps. 8:5 For thou hast made him a little lower than the angels, and hast crowned him with glory and honour.

Destiny's Call

(c) Joni Zipp

Oh gentle flowing whispering stars,
Guiding my shaking hand.
Echoing through my body and soul,
I fight to take a stand.

Angelic points of light behold,
My eyes can see your glory.
Quaking in my tattered shell,
Beseech me with thy fury.

I want forever more to taste,
Thy golden drips of sight.
To bask amid your glorious rays,
So still throughout the night.

Carry me in thy humble embrace,
Into the brilliant realm.
Where no man breathes a flux of air,
As destiny mans the helm.

Characterization

Ps 1:3 He is like a tree planted by streams of water, which yields its fruit in season and whose leaf does not wither. Whatever he does prospers. (NIV)
***
Wow, we’re on the fifth lesson at F2K (the free writing course at WVU.) These seven weeks go by so fast, we’re almost ready to start a new one. That’s a good thing because we get more and more people learning the craft of writing, whether for a living or for a hobby, writing and learning is what life is all about. Okay, not really but that’s what it seems like to me. :)

This week we’re hopping into Characterization and this is where we learn our characters minds. We dig deep within, pull out our best, and place it on the boards. Through dialog with someone, say a job interview, or doctor, or whoever you choose to interview your character, you will ask questions that will bring up emotions in your character, have it all bubble at the surface, and you will spray your reader with insight.

Now some people have many characters in their story, of course, and this is a good exercise to practice on all your characters. Take John and feed him to the psych ward, or maybe Jane, is trying out for the police Academy, or maybe, a mother is scolding her child and is questioning where the said child has been.

Through this dialog phase, our characters will take on new meaning for us. We’ll see them as living entity’s. These characters will then haunt our every step in our day until we write and get everything down on paper and we can see where they have come from and where they are going.

Sometimes, the interviewee becomes more a part of the story because he/she is more interesting. That is okay if this happens, we just just squeeze them in there but always remember the main character is going to need depth. With depth, you character will add living color to your palette of words.

While you’re molding and shaping your character, many different elements will surface and you’ll find yourself on a treadmill of writing. Words will come faster and faster, paragraphs will leap off the page and in the end you’ll have a story with a rainbow of colorful people on your page.

Through this lesson, you will surely have lightning flashing all over the place as you give your characters the sizzle that they need. What better way to get a story constructed than to have in depth, unique characters bouncing off your page?

The choice is yours. Cardboard cutouts of what other authors have already done, or a magical reprieve into the land of mystical destiny? I choose Mystical Destiny any old time. :)

Poetry Sunday

I Asked My Soul A Question
***
I asked my soul a question.
What am I searching for?
Gently holding onto the knob,
It opened up a door.

Cascading tiny showers of love,
Embellished an aching heart.
Agony, ecstasy, shame and sorrow,
Each had there own part.

Strings of light came shining through,
Appearing as a sword.
Strumming sounds of destiny,
Each a blazing chord.

Prisms on the meadow.
My heart now plays a song.
The sword now clutched in my hand.
I know where I belong.

I asked my soul a question.
I found what I came for.
Gently holding onto the knob.
It closed the open door.
