Poetry Sunday ~ An Ode to Eyrline

Acts 26:13 At midday, O king, I saw in the way a light from heaven, above the brightness of the sun, shining round about me and them which journeyed with me.

Ode To Eyrline

She loved to dance, she loved to sing
A song of love or most anything.
Always a tune humming in her heart
Sincerely wise and extremely smart.
This ode of mine to which I write
For sweet Eyrline who knew not her plight.
Inspiration flowed from her fingertips
Encouraging words streamed from her lips.
To loving Eyrline we are giving praise
For lighting up our dimmest days.

E, Lee, Eyrline; endearing names that we know
Sickness tried to cripple her but there she did not go.
She walked with us down a path, a nit or crit or two
A gem among the rubble; she always saw us through.
Eager she was to lend a hand to the young and old
No signs of her frailty; she was fashioned of fine gold!
A vessel among humans to shower her rays of light
A watering can of wisdom that she sprinkled with delight.
I’ll miss the stories of her mother, her family and her pets
Her life held many battles; but she clung to no regrets.

To you my friend, you’ll be missed so much
For your heartfelt words without a single touch.
For the laughter and smiles you brought to our face
How your presence lightened the entire place.
Your passion for God to all of us shone
‘Round about your being you were never alone.
Dedication to music gently carried you away
To the Glory of Heaven is where you now play.
I do not know where you were led to roam
But our Heavenly Father has now called you home.

Be at peace, E. We love you!

Pss. 23:1-6
The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want.
He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters.
He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name's sake.
Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.
Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over.
Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the LORD for ever.

Beautiful poem, Joni. Eyrline touched many lives, and she'd be so proud that you've written a poem just for her.

I spent a long time yesterday reading back over all the emails she'd sent me while she was my intern. She had a fascinating history and loved to talk about it.

Thanks Ben, I still tear up thinking of her.

Thanks Leo,
I was doing the same thing looking through her emails. :( It's like hearing her voice again.

She always told me she loved my poetry and to think she now has one special poem for her and her alone makes my heart feel happy knowing she would've loved this.

I can smile through the tears.

Joni, this is a beautiful ode, to a beautiful lady. No one can ever take her place. She was blessed with so many talents and had a great career between all of her jobs and vocations. I think WVU was one of her favorites. Her organ and piano playing will be missed by so many.
Thank you for writing and sharing this poem.

Thanks Dixie.
She deserved more than a poem so I wrote an Ode. :)
The difference being is that an Ode you need to have a very special subject to say a lot about. She fit the bill. :)

She was one special lady!

Such a beautiful ode, fitting for a beautiful person. She'd be very proud you wrote that for her, and shared it. Very true and touching.

Thank you, Joni.

Thanks Janet,

I can almost hear her giggling at all the fuss we're making over her. :)

She is well loved and oh so worth it! :D

I don't know anything about her writing and I knew her my whole life. I wish I knew this Lee you are talking about, I think I would have liked her. The Poem is amazing and very kind of you to write. I just now saw it and I had to smile and remember my mothers life.

Afghanistan,

She was like a mother to all her writing friends. She was such a sweet lady that we never met physically but touched us all spiritually.
She is surely missed by all.
